Proposed Bi-Directional attempts

Lake Gairdner, South Australia

IMG_80532014 DLRA Speedweek brought the Slaughter Motorsport team back to the South Australian outback, to the amazing Lake Gairdner Australia’s home of Speed. Upon inspection of the track it was found to be damp but in good condition, a contrast from the two weeks earlier when the lake had over an inch of water on it due to the deluge the Southern Australian states had received. Due to the soft and changing conditions from 100 to 400 metres from the edge of the lake the team was unable to move the transporter out to the true pit area along with the other competitors so decided to build the base camp very close to the lake edge on the only hard spot available. IMG_8041With the news of poor salt conditions the team moved to build the pit area for the coming weeks activities, With the new Extreme marquee set up and the Southern Cross put in place inside the massive inflatable structure, the team feverishly worked away to prepare for the first runs of the week. In the evening of the first day the team was met with the high winds that Lake Gairdner is renowned for, the Extreme Marquee Hanger was absolutely awesome during the 85kmh + wind onslaught. Speedweek Ben 037The car passed its technical inspection with ease and was viewed with great interest while being in the main pit area. Scott Andrews, President of the Southern Californian Timing Association was present to witness proceedings and so taking the opportunity Trevor and Ben had discussions with Scott regarding running at the SCTA Speedweek event and how it could all happen. With the car back in the hanger it was discovered that due to the harsh roads leading into Lake Gairdner some wheel bearing damage had occurred, the driveline team quickly replaced the damaged items and prepared the Streamliner for Monday mornings runs. To be continued.
